MAPS is an international Master of Arts in the Public Sphere programme designed to provide a cross cultural environment for art students, working artists, critics and other arts professionals. The curriculum emphasizes theoretical and practical investigation on the topic of 'public' in current society in order to understand this specific spatial and social environment and its potential implications for art making. MAPS offers South African students from Funda Community College, Soweto, the University of Johannesburg and the Wits School of the Arts an opportunity to undertake a six month residency to extend their studies and experience at the Ecole d'Cantanale d'Arts du Valais (ECAV) in Sierre Switzerland.
